The Vineyard:
Our 2015 Malbec comes from Weitz Vineyard in the heart of Oakville. The 2015 vintage was perfect in all ways. A great growing season, perfect weather throughout harvest, and we achieved ideal ripening of flavor and grape phenolics. The hardest thing about the 2013 vintage was deciding when to pick. With no rain on the forecast and perfect temperatures during harvest, we could let the fruit develop great flavor, iintense color, and maturity of tannin.
The Winemaking:
The fruit was hand harvested and destemmed into a one ton bin. The must was punched down by hand two to three times a day during fermentation. We pressed off of the skins after 10 days and the wine was aged in 30% New French oak barrels for 14 months.
Winemaker’s Comments:
Our Malbec has aromas of black cherry, blackberries, plum, raspberry, graham
cracker, and toasted oak. There are hints of chocolate and cola. The flavors on the palate are of chocolate covered strawberries and cherries. The wine has a very full
body, with expressive tannins. An intense Malbec that finishes silky smooth with
flavors of raspberries, caramel and dark chocolate.
